Re: Boing Boing: What’s on your “To Don’t” list?
I spent another in a long series of meetings with folks at the office yesterday, talking about this very concept. It’s a pretty strong trait with technology-oriented folks, the idea that “because I can fix / address / change / do something with technology, I should”.
Technically possible is one thing, but often these “quick fixes” uncover hidden issues, more little tweaks, etc. — and these “quick fixes” balloon into Yet Another Legacy System with poor design / documentation / support.
It takes a strong will sometimes to say “I can, but I won’t”.
